The bathroom, at its core, is purely a place where we do our business, have a wash, and brush our teeth. In theory, that’s all it is.
Yet, we all know it is so much more.
It’s the place you start the day and end the day, and therefore it can be a vital part of establishing your mood. Which of course, it does.
A shower first thing in the morning can refresh you, wake you up, and provide you with the energy you need to start the day.
Equally, after a stressful day at work, a hot bath can be just what you need, accompanied by a few candles, to destress and relax, helping provide you with a much sounder night’s sleep than you’d have gotten otherwise.
It’s essentially our own private sanctuary. A place where we can lock ourselves away, undisturbed, and collect our thoughts. Which in today’s day and age, is vital.
It’s why it’s so important to ensure your bathroom can provide that sort of effect. When more of us than ever are suffering from the likes of anxiety, depression, drug or alcohol addiction, we need that calming space to help us recover.
That kind of effect comes by looking after your bathroom, decorating it with the colours and elements that are calming.
When it comes to decor, softer shades of blue, green and pink are perfect for the bathroom, offering a natural, relaxing feel, as opposed to the energy of oranges and reds, while houseplants can provide clean air to breath and take in.
Then of course, there’s cleanliness. A clean space is a calm space and can reduce stress significantly, whereas a grimy bathroom can induce stress and anxiety.
There’s a large correlation between stress and untidiness and uncleanliness, so if you understand the importance of the bathroom, as a place to relax, then it is vital you keep on top of that.
The bathroom is a place that offers small indulgences. It could be a hot soapy bath at the end of each day. It could be a five minute skincare routine, but all these things make us feel better about ourselves, and five minutes here and five minutes there really adds up, making the bathroom one of, if not the, most important rooms in the house, no matter how big or small your space is.
